Research Interest
Since the dawn of organic chemistry, women and men have been fascinated with the impact that organic matter has on the human condition. In turn, much like the first human moonwalk, or the assembly line production of the Ford Model T, organic chemists’ focus on both discovery and refining synthetic efficiency has been an enduring theme over nearly two centuries. Specifically, our laboratory is focused on identifying the most concise synthetic strategies to assemble some of nature’s most complex molecular architectures. In doing so, this serves as a forcing function to discover new chemical transformations (reaction invention) that have both specific, targeted applications while being broadly useful for others. In short, we believe that our mission as scientists is to “make things better” by improving the synthesis, function, and translational potential of organic molecules and transformations.
