Domestic Students

Departmental recommended requirements

  3. December 1st: Priority deadline for admission into the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Students with complete applications by this date will be considered for the University’s Graduate School Fellowships and the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry’s TA/RA/Tuition waiver awards. February 1st: Final deadline for admission into the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Students with complete applications by this date may also be considered for any possible remaining funding.

Application process:

You will need to prepare the following items as a text, Word, or PDF file to be uploaded as Supporting Documents for your online application:

  1. https://admissions.fsu.edu/graduate/Complete the online application at the FSU Office of Admissions Online Application System.
    1. Document 1 – Program and faculty of interest: Please rank the following programs in order of your preference: Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Materials, Organic, and Physical. Only rank the programs in which you are interested. Also please list names of at least three faculty members with whom you would be interested in working.
    2. Document 2 – Statement of purpose: Provide a 1-3 page statement of your goals and purpose in pursuing a graduate degree in chemistry. Include a discussion of your research experience and interests.
    3. Document 3 – Résumé: In your résumé, provide information about any honors and awards you have received, teaching experience, research experience (within a lab setting, performing honors research or directed individual studies, etc), scientific publications and presentations, relevant work experience, and any special skills you may have (e.g. computer programming, etc.).
    4. Document 4 – Unofficial transcript(s).
    5. Letters of recommendation: Be ready to provide the names and contact information for a minimum of three individuals who will write your letters.
  2. Send:

    One official transcript from each college or university that you have attended (mailed directly from each institution).

    Official GRE scores (NOT required).

Latin American Students

Requisitos de Admisión

  2. El GRE ya no es necesario para estudiantes nacionales o internacionales.
  3. 80 en el IB-TOEFL (21 en el habla), o 7.0 en el IELTS
  4. El plazo de prioridad de la aplicación es 1 de diciembre para el Departamento de Química y Bioquímica. Los estudiantes con solicitudes completas para esta fecha serán considerados para las Becas de la Escuela de Graduados de la Universidad y TA/RA/Premios de exencion de matricula de el Departamento de Química y Bioquímica.El plazo de final de la aplicación es 1 de febrero. Los estudiantes con solicitudes completas para esta fecha también pueden ser considerados para cualquier posible financiamiento restante.

Proceso de Aplicación:

Prepare los siguientes documentos en formatos de Microsoft Word o PDF, estos servirán como documentos de apoyo para su aplicación “online”: 

  1. Complete la aplicación en la página web de las oficinas de admisión en FSU Office of Admissions Online Application System.
    1. Documento 1 – Programa y facultad de interés: Por favor escoja los siguientes programas en la orden de su preferencia: Analítico, Bioquímica, Inorgánico, Materiales, Orgánico, Físico. Solamente escoja los programas en que estÉ interesado. También, escoja en la orden de su preferencia los profesores con quien estaría interesado en trabajar.
    2. Documento 2 – Propósito de objetivo: Presente una declaración de 1-3 páginas de sus metas y el propósito de obtener un título de posgrado en química. Incluya una discusión de sus experiencias con investigaciones e intereses.
    3. Documento 3 – Currículo: En su currículo, incluya información acerca de honores, premios y meritos que haya recibido, también cuanta experiencia de enseñanza e investigaciones (dentro de un laboratorio, haciendo investigación de honores o estudios dirigidos individualmente, etc), también si posible incluya publicaciones, presentaciones, experiencia de trabajo (relacionada a la posición), y talentos que usted tenga (programación de computadoras).
    4. Documento 4 – Transcripciones no oficiales.
    5. Cartas de recomendaciones: Este listo de presentar los nombres e información de contactos de por lo menos tres personas que puedan escribir las cartas de recomendación.

Official Transcripts & Credential EvaluationsThe university policy allows for application review based on unofficial transcripts for applicants not subject to our Credential Evaluation requirements*. Official transcripts will remain on your checklist as “Awaiting” until we have received them from your previous institution(s). If admitted, official transcripts are required before the end of the second week of the first academic term. Please note FSU requires credential evaluations for non-U.S. institutions. Applicants required to submit a credential evaluation must submit official transcripts to the credential evaluation provider.*Please note, the University has recently updated our policy concerning academic credit earned at non-U.S. institutions. Additionally, your department does reserve the right to require official documents for application review.
