Prof. Joe Schlenoff named to the National Academy of Inventors
Robert O. Lawton Professor of Chemistry Joseph Schlenoff has been named Fellows of the academy, which highlights academic inventors who have demonstrated a spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating work that has made a tangible impact on the quality of life, economic development and welfare of society.

John Akintola wins the People’s Choice Award for his 3-minute thesis presentation on his dissertation research, “Functioning Polyelectrolyte Complexes,” which focuses on the novel applications of these materials like as antifouling coatings on the hulls of ships to prevent algae and other sea life growth.

MagLab scientist honored for contributions to nuclear magnetic resonance honored for contributions to nuclear magnetic resonance
Rob Schurko has received the Regitze Vold Prize at the Alpine Conference, an international forum on magnetic resonance in solids. Schurko is director of the MagLab’s Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Facility and is a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at FSU.
FSU chemist earns $1.8M NIH grant to create complex molecules for biomedical and pharmaceutical use
Joel M. Smith, an assistant professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, received the Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award, or MIRA, from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to study the potential that synthesizing small, complex molecules could have on the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries.
